Michigan law (MCL 211.7u) provides for a reduction in property taxes for eligible, low-income homeowners. Every city and township must offer an application process and set eligibility requirements that are no more restrictive than the federal poverty guidelines. 

Barrier Busters connects residents with emergency financial help through its Unmet Needs Fund, which member agencies use to prevent evictions, stop utility shut-offs, and cover urgent costs that threaten housing or financial stability. Residents in crisis work directly with their existing provider, who can quickly access these funds to address immediate needs.

The Weatherization Assistance Program offers free weatherization services to eligible Washtenaw County residents. Administered by Washtenaw County in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy, the program helps households reduce utility costs by conducting a free energy audit and providing qualifying home repairs at no cost. Both homeowners and renters who meet the eligibility criteria may apply.

HAWC is Washtenaw County’s central intake for individuals and families who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness.  The central intake is the single point of entry for all emergency shelters and housing resources that are available to serve people experiencing homelessness in the county. 

Washtenaw County Community Mental Health seeks to promote hope, recovery, resilience and advance health equity in Washtenaw County by providing, high

quality, integrated behavioral health services to adults and youth with intellectual/developmental disabilities,

mental health and/or substance use needs. 

The Washtenaw Health Project, a nonprofit in partnership with the Washtenaw County Health Department, helps you and your family access affordable healthcare coverage and services, regardless of your income or immigration status..
