About Us

Our Story

Devota Advocacy Services (DAS) is a Michigan 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to strengthening financial stability, housing security, and access to financial wellness services for low-  and moderate-income residents. Since 2018, DAS has supported Washtenaw County households facing financial crises, tax delinquency, foreclosure risk, and barriers to safe, reliable tax filing. 

Our no-cost tax preparation service has expanded in 2025 beyond Washtenaw County to support households across Livingston, Shiawassee, Lapeer, and Genesee Counties.  Our work is rooted in dignity, mobility, and meeting people where they are — whether at home, at a library, or in trusted community spaces. DAS provides free tax preparation, financial wellness, poverty exemption support, MIHAF navigation, and year-round case management.

Our Mission

To remove financial, digital, and institutional barriers that prevent families from achieving stability — and to ensure that every resident has access to safe, no-cost tax filing, foreclosure-prevention resources, and personalized financial capacity support.

Our Approach

• Mobile & virtual no-cost income tax filing 
• Housing stability supports, including poverty exemptions, delinquent tax repayment advocacy, and eviction prevention
• Financial wellness checkups using CFPB tools, budgeting support, and soft credit pulls
